Fun and Simple Apple Week

It’s officially fall! I have to just engrain that in my mind because where we live, it is most definitely NOT feeling like Fall yet. We still have plenty of temps coming up over the next couple weeks that are in the upper 90s and low 100s. I know. I can’t even talk about it.

Despite our super warm weather, we are trying to capture fall within our own home because we are all more than ready over here. And what better way than a weeklong immersion in APPLES!

We’ve had so much fun learning all things apple over the last week and a half! If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen some of what we’ve been up to, but I thought it might be helpful to put it all together here so you can easily try an apple week in your own home. This week was super simple, but still a lot of fun for all of us! My 8-year-old, 6-year-old and 3-year-old all really enjoyed each activity.

Here’s a breakdown of what we did each day and the books we read. (Apple picture books are just some of my very favorites! Anything to get in the fall mood!)

Day One

Day one was our apple week kickoff and we celebrated with a deliciously fun taste test! This was probably our favorite activity of the whole week. We made it super official with rating sheets and a favorite apple picture at the end. You can check out all the details here! We also learned about Johnny Appleseed this day.

BOOKS: Who Was Johnny Appleseed? and/or The True Tale of Johnny Appleseed

ACTIVITY: Taste Test

Day Two

We learned all about the different parts of apples and how they grow. Then we cut some up to get a good look at what was inside! We also cut them horizontally to find the star in the middle.

We painted the apples and tried stamping them on paper to see if we could get the star to show up. Unrelated, but this day we also threw in a fun (and simple!) little experiment where we made boats out of our apple slices and put them in a bowl of water to see if they would sink or float! There are lots of ideas for boats I found on Pinterest!

BOOKS: How do Apples Grow? Apples and The Apple Tree’s Discovery

ACTIVITIES: Apple Star Stamping and Apple Boats

Day Three

We LOVE this book at our house so we made a whole day devoted to 10 Apples Up on Top. We attempted to balance apples on our heads and then stacked them (on a flat surface! not our heads!) to see who could get the highest.

I love that this activity provoked a lot of critical thinking from my 8-year-old. He was intently examining each apple as he was trying to decide placement to see how they would best fit together for the ultimate apple tower.

I also found these ADORABLE little worksheets for my 3-year-old to do after we read the book.

BOOK: Ten Apples Up On Top

ACTIVITY: See how many apples you can stack on top of each other, Dot marker worksheets

Day Four

We learned about oxidation and tried an experiment to see how we could best prevent the apples from browning. Check it out here!

BOOKS: Apples, Apples Everywhereย and Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn

ACTIVITY: apple oxidation experiment

Day Five

No Apple Week would be complete without an apple treat at the end! On the final day of apple week we read The Apple Pie Tree and How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World, and then made apple crisp! (Not pie fans over here, haha.) It was the best end to a fun, apple-filled week!

BOOKS: The Apple Pie Tree and How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World

ACTIVITY: Make an apple pie! Or any other apple treat of your choosing.

We really had a blast this week, and it totally made it feel more like Fall in our house! It was so much fun trying to think of all the different things we could do with apples, and bonus… the kids probably ate more apples than any other week of their lives! So simple, fun, AND healthy!

I hope your fall is off to a great start and that this post gives you some easy ideas for apple fun in your home!

Iโ€™m grateful for this holiday season, the joy it brings me, and the increased focus on our Savior and giving to others! And also for 9 straight years of our tree only being decorated on the top half. ๐Ÿ˜‚ โ €
โ €
We like to get the tree set up and decorated while our babies/toddlers are sleeping, and then we all anxiously wait to see their faces when they wake up. This yearโ€™s reaction did not disappoint as this little one couldnโ€™t stop smiling and giggling as he tried to get a closer look and touch all the things! โ €
โ €
Life is about seasons, and Iโ€˜ve been working on fully embracing those seasons. Someday Iโ€™ll have a beautiful Christmas tree decorated just they way I want. ๐ŸŽ„ But I love that this season of life has blessed us with a string of active, curious toddlers, and I know someday we will greatly miss our half-decorated tree and what it meant for our home. โค๏ธ photo credit: @jasoneggett

Iโ€™m so grateful for music! ๐ŸŽถ We recently received this piano from my parents, and I canโ€™t put into words how much it means to me. โ €

My dad traded something he loved to give this piano to my mom when I was just 4 years old. I grew up listening to my momโ€™s beautiful playing and practiced every day in hopes that I could one day make beautiful music too. ๐ŸŽน โ €

Over the years Iโ€™ve shared so many emotions and feelings through the keys of this piano, and Iโ€™m forever grateful for the music education Iโ€™ve received! And so grateful now for the excitement of my kids learning, and the music that constantly fills our home โค๏ธ

The GOOD: We are avoiding walking the church halls for two hours with a baby ๐Ÿคช AND, more importantly, itโ€™s given my husband and me so many opportunities to share our personal testimonies with our children. Hey friends! Weโ€™re just getting back into the swing of things after taking an unplanned, but much needed, few weeks away from everything!โ €
โ €
